Two New Arrivals to the Band....

The band have had a very busy summer season, which now leads up to the Brass Band National Championships being held in Cheltenham on 15th September.

The band are delighted with two new arrivals to the ranks of Ian Nichols on Soprano Cornet and Simon Wills back on percussion.

Ian began learning Cornet at the age of 7 with the City of Truro Band and during this time supplemented this with playing trumpet in various school ensembles.  After a 10 year hiatus, Ian returned to playing with the Cornwall Returners Orchestra (now Cornwall Concert Orchestra) in 2013, later rejoining the City of Truro band in 2013 for 6 months on principal cornet. After helping St Stythians Band out for the 2013 summer season, he joined full time in September 2013. After a spell with St Austell Band on back row cornet and then Soprano, Ian Joined Helston Town Band full-time earlier this season, and is a welcome asset to the team.

Simon has played with Helston previously and has re-signed to the band this season on Percussion, and has done a fantastic job.  He has been part of percussion sections in other bands including Lanner and Redruth; competing in contests at high levels and was seen enjoying himself at this year's Flora Day and St Agnes Carnival on side drum.
